What seat can I choose on WestJet UltraBasic or EconoFlex, and what does Extended Comfort add?

WestJet includes standard advance selection with EconoFlex, while UltraBasic uses an assigned seat unless you pay for a selection; its published description places the automatic UltraBasic assignment toward the back. Extended Comfort is a paid Economy seat product with extra legroom and boarding benefits, not Premium or Business. It does not, by itself, include priority check-in.

What this answer depends on

  • WestJet published Economy seat choices and Extended Comfort; exact ticket and offered inventory still control
  • The fare determines whether standard advance choice is included. On UltraBasic, a paid seat choice changes the seat selection, not the fare’s cabin-upgrade eligibility. On EconoFlex, an included standard choice should not be read as every extra-space product being included. Inspect the booking’s actual offer before committing.
  • WestJet distinguishes Extended Comfort benefits from Premium and Business. In particular, the seat page says Extended Comfort does not include priority check-in. A passenger who buys it should therefore not infer the right to use a premium check-in desk solely from the seat label. Read any separate status entitlement independently.
  • WestJet includes standard advance selection with EconoFlex; UltraBasic has paid selection or automatic rear-cabin assignment.
  • WestJet Extended Comfort is an extra-legroom Economy seat product with boarding benefits, not Premium or Business.
  • WestJet states that Extended Comfort does not include priority check-in.

Important exceptions

  • No price, exact rear row, available seat or universal aircraft layout is promised. Status or a separate product can change entitlements. Family seating and exit-row eligibility are outside A6’s scope here.

What to do next

  1. Identify the fare as UltraBasic, EconoFlex or another product in the booking.

  2. Review the included standard choice or the paid seat selections offered for that flight.

  3. For Extended Comfort, check the total charge and listed seat/boarding benefits, without treating it as a cabin upgrade.

  4. Use the check-in entitlement actually shown for the fare or status; Extended Comfort alone is not priority check-in.

  5. Have the fare name, selected seat product, operating flight and any separate status or priority entitlement.

Does paying for Extended Comfort give me Premium check-in?

Not by itself. WestJet’s seat-selection guidance explicitly excludes priority check-in from Extended Comfort.
