Who controls an Air New Zealand credit when someone else booked the trip?
The credit holder is normally the person associated with the primary email address on the original booking, not automatically every passenger or the person whose name appears first on a ticket. The terms also provide a time-limited written process for that holder to assign the credit to an original traveler or split it among travelers. Clarify control promptly after issue.
What this answer depends on
- Direct Air New Zealand flight credits under its published credit terms; excludes agency, group, corporate and Travelcard credits.
- The credit is issued to the primary email address linked to the booking, which identifies the Credit Holder.
- The holder may request assignment to an original traveler or division among original travelers by writing from the receiving email address within thirty days of credit issue.
- The holder can authorize use for another person, but credits cannot be sold or generally transferred to others.
Important exceptions
- The assignment provision is a limited process involving travelers on the original booking, not permission to sell the credit. These direct-credit terms explicitly exclude several indirect and group channels. A separate agency or corporate arrangement must be checked with its issuer.
