How do I recover seat or other airline-service charges when a canceled or changed flight means the service was not provided?
List paid airline extras separately from the airfare. A ticket refund does not prove every optional charge has been returned, and taking a replacement flight does not prove every purchased service was delivered. Compare each receipt with what was actually provided on the disrupted and replacement flights.

What this answer depends on
- Air transportation to, from or within the United States covered by the cited US provision. Airport location, operating-carrier and itinerary conditions in the answer remain essential.
- U.S. rules require refunds of fees for ancillary services that were not provided. DOT gives examples including seat selection, upgrades and onboard services.
- The airline is responsible for refunds of its unprovided ancillary services even when an agent sold the airfare.
- A fare refund and an ancillary-service refund are distinct questions; accepting alternative transportation does not establish that a separately purchased service was supplied.
- An OTA airfare purchase does not move responsibility for an airline’s unprovided ancillary service away from the airline.
Important exceptions
- The exact service purchased and delivered matters. A preferred seat, a cabin upgrade and a specific seat assignment are not interchangeable products. This page excludes delayed or lost baggage and does not determine compensation for those events. A tax or an agency administration charge is not automatically an airline ancillary service.

I flew the replacement. Is the extras claim over?
Not necessarily. Explain the unprovided service separately from the transportation you accepted.

Should I use the OTA airfare form?
For an airline’s unprovided service, use the airline’s refund process and identify the service receipt. The airfare merchant may be a different business.
