Under-seat dimensions: check the personal-item rule, not a universal cavity size
That is an American personal-item limit, not a measurement of every airline’s under-seat space. Do not confuse it with American’s separate carry-on allowance of 22 by 14 by 9 inches, including handles and wheels. American also notes additional restrictions at some airports and on some aircraft. An overhead-bag dimension does not prove that the same bag can go under your seat. Before choosing a bag, identify the operating airline and compare its current personal-item rule with the bag’s actual dimensions. For a tight fit or an unusual seating location, seek aircraft-specific guidance rather than buying on the assumption that all under-seat spaces are identical.
