SWISS seat fees and changes at check-in

Review the actual reservation and available seat rather than assuming a single fee covers every category or route. SWISS offers reservation during booking or later in the personal profile, generally until two hours before departure. If no seat was reserved, SWISS assigns one at check-in; choosing a different seat can cost extra. Free assignment is therefore not the same as a free choice of another location. A previously booked seat has a different check-in condition: under the stated terms, it can be changed to the same or a lower category without an additional check-in seat-change fee. Check which situation applies before approving a charge. This rule does not by itself promise a refund for an earlier purchase or a free move to a higher category.
