Which WestJet upgrade process can I use before and after check-in?

WestJet publishes several distinct routes rather than one upgrade window: a pre-check-in offer that closes 54 hours before departure, instant purchase within ten days where offered, upgrades during check-in, and a real-time auction after check-in. UltraBasic is excluded from purchasing a cabin upgrade. Buying an Extended Comfort seat is a different product, not a way to change that cabin-upgrade rule.

Carry-on, checked baggage, pet carrier and stroller prepared for airport travel

What this answer depends on

  • WestJet published paid cabin-upgrade channels for eligible bookings; no specific offer, inventory or bid recommendation
  • A pre-check-in offer and a post-check-in auction have different stages and conditions. WestJet’s page explicitly distinguishes them, so a closed earlier offer does not describe every later channel. Equally, a later channel does not guarantee that your fare or flight qualifies. Inspect the current official offer for the actual booking.
  • The UltraBasic exclusion concerns buying a cabin upgrade. WestJet’s seat page separately allows paid Economy seat products such as Extended Comfort. Extra legroom in Economy therefore must not be described as a Premium or Business upgrade. Match the product name to the cabin shown in the offer.
  • The upgrade page includes limitations on benefits for offers accepted close to departure. Before buying, ask what is included in that particular channel and confirmation time. This guide does not turn a cabin purchase into an unconditional lounge, priority-check-in or other airport entitlement.
  • WestJet describes a pre-check-in upgrade offer ending 54 hours before departure and instant purchase within ten days where available.
  • WestJet distinguishes upgrades during check-in from a real-time auction after check-in.
  • WestJet excludes UltraBasic from purchasing cabin upgrades.
  • WestJet limits some travel-ease benefits for upgrade offers accepted close to departure.
  • WestJet Extended Comfort is an Economy seat product distinct from Premium or Business.

Important exceptions

  • Prices and eligibility are dynamic. The published timing is not a guarantee that an offer will appear. No winning bid, airport availability, upgrade on another sector or unchanged benefits across channels is promised.

What to do next

  1. Identify the fare type and whether check-in has already been completed.

  2. Choose the matching official offer, instant-purchase, check-in or auction route.

  3. Check the selected flight, passenger scope, total amount and actual cabin.

  4. Retain the confirmed result and review which airport benefits accompany that specific transaction.

  5. Have the fare name, flight, check-in status, offered cabin and complete offer terms.

More booking questions

Does Extended Comfort mean I have upgraded to Premium?

No. It is a seat product within Economy, separate from the cabin-upgrade processes.
