How do I know whether JAL automatic check-in actually checked me in?
Look for the result notification, not merely confirmation that you registered. JAL’s automatic service uses information provided in advance to attempt check-in 24 hours before departure. Registration is not the boarding pass itself, and the service excludes several journeys, including travel to the United States and bookings made outside JAL.

What this answer depends on
- JAL Automatic Check-in for eligible international tickets, distinct from ordinary online check-in
- An itinerary being visible in a JAL account does not establish eligibility for this automatic service. JAL excludes travel-agency and other-airline bookings, US travel and certain other ticket or flight combinations. Read the eligibility conditions for the full itinerary before expecting the automatic email. Do not use this exclusion as evidence that an agency booking cannot use ordinary online check-in.
- JAL accepts advance registration after ticket purchase and before the first flight’s 24-hour threshold. The passenger supplies the required information; the system attempts the later check-in. JAL says a seat not already selected will be allocated in that process. A successful form submission earlier in the week therefore does not establish a completed check-in today.
- JAL specifies the email registered for the reservation. For JMB members with two registered addresses, its instructions identify Email address 2, subject to later flight-information updates. Check the address actually used for this trip and read whether the notification reports completion or a need for further action. Do not send passport details to an unverified sender in response to an unexpected message.
- JAL attempts automatic check-in 24 hours before departure using advance information and reports the result.
- JAL Automatic Check-in excludes US travel and bookings made outside JAL, among other eligibility exclusions.
- Advance registration is available after purchase until 24 hours before the first flight; an unselected seat is allocated during automatic check-in.
- JAL uses the reservation notification email; its JMB instructions identify Email address 2 when two addresses are registered, with later flight-information updates affecting delivery.
- A JAL boarding document without the required two-dimensional barcode requires a counter-issued pass.
Important exceptions
- Automatic processing is not promised for every ticket. Changed but not updated tickets, excluded operators and other listed conditions may require another route. This guide does not decide entry eligibility, repair ticketing or guarantee an assigned seat number.
