Why does ANA send me to another airline’s website to check in for a Japan domestic codeshare?

For the domestic partners covered by ANA’s instructions, check-in takes place on the operating airline’s website even when you start from the ANA app or email. The ANA booking screen provides a Check-in & Boarding Pass handoff to the carrier. That redirect is part of the stated process, not necessarily an error or a missing reservation.

What this answer depends on

  • ANA-marketed Japan domestic flights operated by the partner airlines specifically covered in ANA’s online-check-in guide
  • ANA identifies AIRDO, Solaseed Air, StarFlyer, IBEX Airlines and Oriental Air Bridge in this partner process. Its guide treats Japan Air Commuter and Amakusa Airlines differently, so do not extend the same instructions to every domestic codeshare simply because the ticket carries an ANA flight number.
  • ANA’s app route begins with the reservation and the Check-in & Boarding Pass option indicating redirection to the carrier. The Check-in Information email also provides the relevant route. Starting there helps distinguish the intended operator handoff from an unrelated search result. Check the destination site and the flight shown before entering passenger information.
  • An ANA reservation display is not the same as a boarding pass issued after the partner’s check-in procedure. Continue through the operator’s instructions and save the resulting credential in the format it supports. If the handoff fails, preserve the error and operator name; do not repeatedly create unrelated accounts or assume the flight itself is canceled.
  • ANA directs covered Japan domestic partner check-in to the carrier website through the app’s Check-in & Boarding Pass handoff or Check-in Information email.
  • ANA lists AIRDO, Solaseed Air, StarFlyer, IBEX and Oriental Air Bridge for this handoff and treats Japan Air Commuter/Amakusa separately.

Important exceptions

  • This guide does not establish eligibility for every ticket or every domestic partner. It is not an international codeshare procedure, an airport-terminal directory or a guarantee that the partner’s online tool will accept the booking.

What to do next

  1. Confirm the operating airline on the Japan domestic flight, not only its ANA marketing flight number.

  2. Open the reservation in ANA’s app or use the official Check-in Information email route.

  3. For a covered partner, follow the explicitly labeled handoff and complete the operator’s check-in process.

  4. Retrieve and check the boarding credential for the correct passenger and flight. Ask about a failed handoff using both the ANA reference and the operator details.

  5. Keep the ANA reservation details, the actual operating carrier, flight/date, the official check-in message and the exact failure screen if one appears.

More booking questions

Should I insist on completing everything on ANA’s website?

Not for the covered domestic partners. ANA explicitly directs the check-in to the operating carrier’s website.
