Can I pay an ANA award-cancellation fee by card instead of miles?
The choice depends on when the award was newly reserved and ticketed, where it was issued and how you request the refund. ANA offers card payment for eligible newer awards, but not for every ticket or issuing market. Check those conditions before assuming that a reissued older award qualifies.
What this answer depends on
- ANA Mileage Club-issued international or partner awards; voluntary refund of a wholly unused award.
- New reservations and tickets issued on or after June 24, 2025 may qualify for a card-paid cancellation fee; changing an older award after that date does not create eligibility.
- The published alternatives are JPY 3,000 per person, or the local equivalent, and 3,000 miles per person; European issuance excluding Turkey and Russia, India, and Mexico cannot use the card option.
- The card-fee refund procedure is online only, while the miles-fee route can use the website or ANA reservation service, subject to listed online exclusions.
Important exceptions
- All-unused and mileage-validity requirements still apply. Mexico-issued awards and reservations involving an infant have additional online-processing restrictions, so an assisted miles-fee route may be necessary. This page does not convert a partner-program award into an ANA Mileage Club award.
