How do I arrange a multi-city trip and compare its total cost?

Enter each departure, destination and date in travel order. Google Flights supports multi-city searching; British Airways also provides a multi-city booking option for eligible itineraries, including trips that return from a different city.

Important unknowns

  • No route, dates, fare comparison or protected-connection determination.

What to do next

  1. Use a multi-city search when the trip has several planned flight legs rather than a simple return journey.

  2. Enter each departure, destination and date in travel order.

  3. Review Find plane tickets on Google Flights from Google and verify the current page before completing this task.

  4. Review Multi-city flights from British Airways and verify the current page before completing this task.

Original worked example — fictional inputs

Planning example: what happens between flights in a multi-city trip?

List every movement, including travel you will arrange separately. In a fictional plan: Home → City A, flight requested; City A → City B, ground journey not yet arranged; City B → City C, flight requested; City C → Home, flight requested. The City A–City B gap remains part of the trip even though it is absent from the flight search.

Conditions

  • For each movement, record its endpoints, intended date, travel mode and status: requested, arranged with a reference, or still pending. A request is not a booking.
  • Give the ground movement its own time and cost estimate. Check its actual endpoints against the airports and dates in the proposed flights.

Exceptions

  • If the proposed itinerary changes an airport or leaves an unexplained gap, ask who arranges the missing movement and what, if anything, is included.

What to do next

Compare the seller's itinerary with your movement list. Keep every unarranged flight or ground leg marked pending until you have the actual arrangement and terms.

Limitations

  • These fictional cities supply no route, timetable, fare, entry permission, connection allowance or connection-protection determination. Flights displayed together do not by themselves establish through-ticket status.
