Changing a KLM seat: the Light fare exception

Most KLM tickets allow a regular seat to be selected without a fee at check-in. Light is an important exception: when you have not purchased a seat, KLM assigns one at check-in, and changing that assignment requires payment. An assigned seat and a free choice of a different seat are therefore not the same benefit. Compare the displayed option with what you already hold. KLM says prices can depend on the itinerary, flight, booking time, and traveler status. Do not use another traveler’s quote as your price. If you previously paid for a seat, review the conditions for that purchase before assuming a new selection will refund or replace the earlier payment.

Important unknowns

  • A universal paid-seat exchange or refund rule was not verified.
  • Live canonical owner and nearest-page content are UNKNOWN because the sitemap index could not be retrieved.

What to do next

  1. Use KLM’s My Trip to review another available seat.

  2. Check the actual seat price in your reservation before changing anything; the fare and the timing of the selection affect whether you pay.

  3. Compare the displayed option with what you already hold.

  4. Review Economy Class seats from KLM and verify the current page before completing this task.
