American Airlines seat changes: check availability and seat type

A different location and a different seat product should not be treated as the same request. When no seats are available to choose, American says it will assign a seat at check-in and recommends checking availability again closer to departure. That does not establish a right to an unavailable aisle, window, or extra-legroom seat. Review any new charge before accepting a paid option. American can reassign seats for operational, safety, or security reasons, so a selected seat number is not guaranteed. If you already paid for a seat that has changed, keep the receipt and ask American about that particular purchase. The Main Cabin page does not establish a universal refund or a free-change rule for every fare.
