Why will TAP not accept three vouchers plus a card payment online?

The payment limit changes when another method is needed. TAP allows three vouchers when they cover the purchase, but only two when a balance must be paid another way. Combined vouchers also need the same issue currency. Check both constraints before assuming a valid voucher is broken.

What this answer depends on

  • Existing ordinary TAP vouchers used in an online payment; this is not compensation-card cash conversion.
  • Up to three vouchers can fund a purchase when no top-up is required; a purchase with another payment method permits at most two vouchers.
  • Vouchers combined in one payment must have the same issue currency, though that currency can differ from the purchase currency.
  • TAP directs customers to its Contact Center when three vouchers are insufficient or more than three are needed.

Important exceptions

What to do next

  1. List each voucher’s currency, balance and expiry. Keep an expired or differently denominated instrument out of the proposed combination until its treatment is clear.

  2. Compare the purchase total with the selected voucher balance. Determine whether a top-up is required before choosing how many vouchers to enter.

  3. For a combination outside the online limit, ask the Contact Center to assess the payment rather than repeatedly submitting the same failed checkout. Do not assume assisted processing changes the underlying validity.

  4. After an accepted payment, save the ticket receipt and residual balances. Reconcile the instruments actually used, not merely those you originally planned to apply.

  5. Voucher identifiers, balances, issue currencies, expiry fields, purchase currency and remaining amount due.
