Can I cancel only the flight part of a Southwest Getaways package?
Do not cancel a Getaways flight as though it were an independent airline ticket. Southwest’s package terms restrict voluntary cancellation of individual package products and of only one flight direction. Start with the package record and the package-specific cancellation offer so you can see what happens to the full booking.
What this answer depends on
- A Southwest Getaways package, not a flight-only Southwest reservation.
- Southwest Getaways does not permit voluntary cancellation of individual package products or only one flight direction under its stated package cancellation rules.
- Getaways credit is a separate product from ordinary flight credit.
- The published Getaways credit rule uses an eighteen-month period, or the earliest applicable expiry of credits used, and requires travel to be completed by expiry.
Important exceptions
- This is a package-control question within cancellation and credit handling, not advice on booking a new vacation. It does not apply ordinary flight-only refund rules to hotels or other services. Exact deductions depend on the package terms displayed for your booking.

Southwest Getaways points: check every traveler’s share
Getaways points use the eligible components’ base total at Southwest’s set rate, excluding taxes, fees, post-pays and optional charges. Only completed eligible components earn. Points are divided as equally as possible among travelers, excluding lap children. Associate a Rapid Rewards number or request your portion within twelve months after completion; an unassociated portion is then forfeited, not redistributed. These points count toward tier status, not Companion Pass status.
Confirm before booking
- Confirm current instructions for your actual ticket or account with the airline. The effective date and individual outcome are not established.
What to do next
- Identify the account
- Start with the package record rather than treating its total as an ordinary flight fare. List the included components and the amounts identified in the receipt. If a component or its pricing is unclear, ask for a breakdown instead of assuming every payment contributes to earning.
- Use the official recovery route
- Next, make one row for each traveler whose account you are checking. Record the Rapid Rewards number supplied, any portion already posted and any unresolved request. Keep each traveler’s position visible; a credit appearing in one account does not explain every other person’s record.
- Keep your request focused
- For an enquiry, give the package reference, completed travel details, relevant member and the precise missing portion. Ask Southwest to identify the eligible basis and allocation used. That is more useful than asking why the package total was not multiplied by a flight-earning rate.
- Check the result
- Retain your request and compare the response with the account entry. If the allocation cannot be reconciled, identify the component or traveler responsible for the difference. Avoid silently moving an unexplained amount into another person’s expected share.
- Scope and limitations
- No points multiplier or exact award is supplied here. This guide does not calculate status qualification from a package price, establish a credit-transfer procedure or apply flight-only cancellation rules to a vacation package.
