What should I check when an EU-covered disruption changes travel arranged with disability assistance?
Do not judge the alternative only by its arrival time. A new airport, carrier or connection can make an otherwise plausible reroute unusable without assistance. The Commission’s guidance says that assistance arranged for passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility should remain available when they are rerouted, and that care must account for their particular needs.

What this answer depends on
- Flights and passengers within Regulation (EC) No 261/2004. Check departure, destination, operating carrier and the specific conditions below; the airline name alone does not establish coverage.
- The EU rerouting guidance says that assistance offered to passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility under the original arrangement should remain available on the alternative route.
- EU261 requires particular attention to the needs of people with reduced mobility and accompanying persons, as well as unaccompanied children, when providing care.
- The regulation gives persons with reduced mobility and their accompanying persons or certified service dogs priority in carriage and provides care as soon as possible in the specified disruption circumstances.
Important exceptions
- This is not a full guide to all disability law, medical clearance or equipment carriage. No particular aircraft, seat or transfer service is guaranteed by this article. The passenger’s needs and the exact replacement arrangements require confirmation; a generic note in an app is not proof that every handoff has been arranged.

Is the earliest scheduled arrival always the only consideration?
No. The guidance also addresses comparable travel and continuity of assistance.

Should I assume assistance automatically transfers to every replacement booking?
Ask for confirmation of the full alternative rather than assuming the operational handoff is complete.
