What APPR compensation may be due for a within-control delay or cancellation that is not required for safety?
The reviewed APPR uses different minimum amounts for large and small carriers and bases the band on arrival at the destination on the original ticket. First establish the within-control, non-safety conditions and the notice requirement. A long delay by itself is not enough.

What this answer depends on
- Travel within the applicable APPR scope, including the ticketed journey and the event-specific conditions. The consolidated source displays current-through 2026-07-21; check for later changes.
- For the qualifying section 12 delay/cancellation branch, the passenger must have been informed 14 days or less before departure and meet the other applicable conditions.
- For a large carrier, arrival 3 to under 6 hours late has a minimum of CAD 400; 6 to under 9 hours, CAD 700; 9 hours or more, CAD 1,000.
- For a small carrier, the corresponding minimum amounts are CAD 125, CAD 250 and CAD 500.
- The APPR defines arrival by a door opening after landing to allow passengers to leave, not simply touchdown.
Important exceptions
- The table does not apply to every weather or safety-related disruption, and denied boarding has different amounts. A refund instead of continuing travel has a distinct section 19(2) branch. Currency is Canadian dollars; do not read the amounts as U.S. dollars.
