Will using AirTrain for a JFK flight connection require another security check?
JFK’s connection guide says an interterminal AirTrain journey requires passing through security again. It separately describes Delta’s bus within Terminal 4 as an airside option that does not require that repeat screening. These are different routes: a Terminal 4 bus is not a substitute for every interterminal journey.
What this answer depends on
- JFK airport connection transport, comparing interterminal AirTrain with the described Delta T4 internal bus
- At some airports a terminal train is inside security; JFK’s guide instead places repeat screening in the AirTrain connection process. Use the airport-specific instruction, not a rule borrowed from DFW or another hub. Account for the actual departure checkpoint when planning the onward journey.
- The Delta bus described by JFK stays within the relevant Terminal 4 airside system. It cannot be assumed to take you to any other terminal, and the guide does not establish it as always faster than walking. Confirm your actual gate area before choosing it.
- JFK says interterminal AirTrain connections require security screening again.
- JFK describes Delta’s T4 internal bus as airside without repeat screening and does not guarantee it is faster than walking.
- JFK directs connecting travelers to identify the operating airline for their flights.
Important exceptions
- No train fare beyond the airport transfer scope, schedule, bus stop, gate assignment or total connection time is provided. Arrival immigration requirements are separate. A flight sold under another airline’s code must be matched to its actual operator.

Can I use DFW’s “train inside security” rule at JFK?
No. JFK specifically describes repeat screening after its interterminal AirTrain connection.
