How do I use Hong Kong Airport Flight Token after checking in online?

Online check-in alone does not establish that you have completed every Flight Token enrollment step. HKIA describes token creation at participating check-in counters or kiosks and another enrollment route at e-Security Gates using travel-document and boarding-pass information. The full kiosk-started journey depends on the participating airline and destination. Keep your documents available instead of assuming facial recognition has replaced the need to carry them.

What this answer depends on

  • Adult departing passengers using HKIA Flight Token; airline/destination and travel-document conditions remain applicable
  • HKIA says the token combines travel-document and boarding-pass information. At a supported counter or kiosk it is created as part of the check-in procedure. Other passengers may enroll at e-Security Gates by scanning the required documents. Ask which route applies when you already have a mobile pass, rather than returning to a kiosk solely because another passenger enrolled there.
  • The airport describes subsequent facial identity checks at e-Security, the Flight Token immigration e-Channels and e-Boarding Gates. Completing one enrollment step is not the same as having physically completed security, departure immigration and boarding. Follow each checkpoint’s instruction in order.
  • HKIA qualifies the full smart-kiosk journey by airline and selected destination, and notes that individual airline acceptance policies can change. This guide therefore does not promise that every carrier, passport or flight supports every stage. Review the current airport guidance and its linked privacy information before deciding how to use the service.
  • HKIA creates Flight Token using travel-document and boarding-pass information at supported check-in counters/kiosks and permits other enrollment at e-Security Gates.
  • The full smart-kiosk Flight Token journey is conditional on participating airlines and selected destinations, with airline acceptance subject to change.
  • HKIA describes separate Flight Token identity-verification stages at e-Security, immigration e-Channels and e-Boarding Gates.

Important exceptions

  • No biometric accuracy, queue-time or data-retention guarantee is made. This article does not describe eligibility for children, baggage acceptance or immigration admission. It does not suggest leaving a passport behind because a checkpoint can identify a face.

What to do next

  1. Complete the relevant airline check-in and retain a usable boarding credential and original travel document.

  2. Determine whether a Flight Token was created during supported counter/kiosk check-in or whether enrollment is needed at e-Security.

  3. Follow the document-scan or facial-verification instruction at the applicable checkpoint, subject to participation.

  4. Continue through the remaining security, departure-immigration and boarding steps; ask staff for the supported alternative if a stage does not work.

  5. Have the original travel document, boarding pass, operating airline and destination. Keep any enrollment result accessible and read the airport’s current service and privacy conditions.
