Should I pass Hong Kong immigration before transferring from a flight to a SkyPier ferry?

No—not when using HKIA’s air-to-ferry SkyPier transfer process. The airport instructs these transfer passengers to remain in the restricted area and not pass immigration or collect baggage through the normal arrival route. It says passengers who have passed immigration cannot return to use the SkyPier ferry transfer. Confirm service eligibility before choosing the arrival exit.

What this answer depends on

  • HKIA air-to-ferry SkyPier transfer, not a Hong Kong-origin ferry journey or ferry timetable
  • The usual arrival path is not the SkyPier air-to-ferry path. The airport explicitly says that passing immigration prevents returning for this transfer service. Stop and verify the ferry-transfer route before committing to the public arrivals exit; a ferry reservation alone does not undo that boundary.
  • HKIA publishes conditions involving the arriving flight, ferry ticket and destination travel documents. These are not a guarantee that every port or departure is currently operating. Check the current eligible service, then follow the restricted-area process for that service. This article deliberately avoids copying a timetable that could change.
  • HKIA instructs air-to-ferry SkyPier users not to pass immigration; those who do cannot return for the transfer service.
  • HKIA requires the applicable arrival-flight, ferry-ticket and destination-document evidence for air-to-ferry transfer.

Important exceptions

  • No ferry frequency, fare, port availability, baggage allowance or admission guarantee is supplied. Someone who has already passed immigration needs staff guidance for a different permitted arrangement, not instructions to re-enter restricted transit.

What to do next

  1. Confirm that the intended ferry uses the SkyPier air-to-ferry transfer service.

  2. Check the current ferry, arrival-flight and destination-document requirements.

  3. Remain within the restricted area and follow the ferry-transfer directions rather than normal immigration/arrival exit signs.

  4. Present the required travel evidence at the transfer service and follow its current boarding instructions.

  5. Have the arriving-flight evidence, ferry booking, original passport and applicable destination documents readily available.
