SWISS teens flying alone: choose assistance before relying on a connection

For unaccompanied travelers aged 12–17, SWISS’s UM service is optional. Without booking it, this group receives no special assistance during disruptions.

Important unknowns

  • The source does not establish the outcome of an individual request. Confirm current instructions with the airline; the effective date of these provisions is not established.

What to do next

  1. Identify the account

Supported connections are Zurich, Geneva, Brussels, Munich, Frankfurt and Vienna; Vienna has an additional transfer fee. For other operating airlines, check availability with the Service Centre before buying.

  2. Use the official recovery route

Book through the Service Centre or a travel agency, not online, and get care confirmed on every flight. SWISS-operated service fees apply per child and leg, including the return.

  3. Keep your request focused

Prepare a route sheet identifying the teenager, travel dates, operating flights and connections. Use it during the booking discussion so the arrangement being confirmed matches the complete journey you intend to buy.

  4. Check the result

Discuss a fallback with your teen: whom to call, where to wait for an agreed instruction and which adult can respond if timing changes. Keep contact details somewhere accessible during the journey.

  5. Scope and limitations

This is a prebooking decision guide for ages 12–17. Travel documents, consent and handover instructions still need checking. It does not decide younger-child eligibility, an accompanying sibling’s age boundary or guarantee a particular disruption outcome.
