Southwest A-List qualification: track the right yearly total

Per calendar year, A-List requires 20 qualifying one-way segments or 35,000 tier qualifying points; A-List Preferred requires 40 or 70,000. These points are not redeemable. Cash + Points earns them on the dollar-paid base fare. A qualifying segment is a Southwest-operated origin-to-destination journey including connections, excluding reward, charter, nonrevenue and Companion Pass travel. Earned status lasts through that calendar year and the next; requalification is yearly.

Important unknowns

  • The source does not establish the outcome of an individual request. Confirm current instructions with the airline; the effective date of these provisions is not established.

What to do next

  1. Identify the account

Choose which qualification route you are tracking, then identify the matching account total. Do not substitute the general redeemable-points balance for the tier qualifying figure. Keep your target and the actual recorded progress on the same line so a comparison remains meaningful.

  2. Use the official recovery route

For flight-count planning, record the origin-to-destination journey. A connection within that journey is not a reason to count an additional qualifying one-way segment. If a proposed itinerary is unclear, ask Southwest how it would be classified before using it in a qualification plan.

  3. Keep your request focused

Keep completed, recorded activity separate from travel you only intend to take. For each unresolved entry, note the journey or transaction reference and the question you need answered. Do not turn an expected earning estimate into proof that the qualification total has increased.

  4. Check the result

Before relying on a benefit for an upcoming trip, check the status and validity actually shown for the account. If you believe the record is wrong, ask about the relevant entry and qualification year.

  5. Scope and limitations

This guide does not calculate credit-card earning, promise when points will post or confirm that a traveler has qualified. It also gives no boarding-group prediction or guarantee of a particular seat. Qualification and the result shown on an individual reservation are different checks.
