SAS damaged baggage: complete both the report and the claim

Report damage and obtain a PIR number, then submit the claim within seven days of receiving the bag. SAS permits online reporting within 72 hours of flight arrival; after that window, phone Arrival Service.

Important unknowns

  • The source does not establish the outcome of an individual request. Confirm current instructions with the airline; the effective date of these provisions is not established.

What to do next

  1. Identify the account

If the airport desk is closed, photograph the damaged bag and tags with the closed desk visible in the background.

  2. Use the official recovery route

For an ordinary damaged bag, residents of Norway, Switzerland, the UK or the EU use the repair-or-replacement claim route. Residents elsewhere use the compensation form. Special baggage, such as strollers, sports equipment, instruments or wheelchairs, uses the special-baggage compensation route. Missing contents also require the compensation form.

  3. Keep your request focused

Keep the PIR and claim confirmation together. The airport report alone does not complete the required claim, and the claim route does not establish a payment amount.
