JAL international damaged baggage: choose the correct report route

Report visible damage to JAL airport staff before leaving. If you discover it later, contact the arrival airport within seven days of receiving the bag. This clock concerns receipt, not simply the flight date.

Important unknowns

  • The source does not establish the outcome of an individual request. Confirm current instructions with the airline; the effective date of these provisions is not established.

What to do next

  1. Identify the account

For a final arrival on a JAL-operated international flight, the dedicated damage inquiry form is another route. It excludes JTA international flights: report those at the arrival airport. For another airline’s operated codeshare, contact that operator.

  2. Use the official recovery route

JAL normally repairs damage eligible for compensation, with alternatives depending on the case. It may request proof of the bag’s purchase date, price and other details. Damage from an inherent defect, quality or vice is excluded.

  3. Keep your request focused

An inquiry does not promise compensation. Describe the damage and keep purchase evidence for the review.
