Your Delta receipt includes bags and Wi-Fi: which payments are flight earning?
For an otherwise-eligible non-Basic Delta-marketed paid ticket, redeemable flight miles use base fare and carrier surcharges, excluding government taxes/fees.
Important unknowns
- The source does not establish the outcome of an individual request. Confirm current instructions with the airline; the effective date of these provisions is not established.

A Delta infant ticket or an extra seat: payment alone does not establish earning
Delta excludes mileage credit, including Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs), for infants under two traveling without an applicable fare or paying an international infant fare. Its rules allow mileage in an infant's account for a ticket bought at the applicable fare, subject to qualifying-fare restrictions.
Confirm before booking
- Confirm current instructions for your actual ticket or account with the airline. The effective date and individual outcome are not established.
What to do next
- Identify the account
- Tickets bought for excess baggage, musical instruments, pets or extra space for the primary passenger do not earn mileage credit. Qualifying flown travel credits the actual traveler, regardless of who paid. Two paid documents therefore need not represent two earning passengers.
- Use the official recovery route
- Identify what each document actually covers before asking about a missing entry. For a child, keep the child's ticket and fare description separate from the adult's receipt and account. If the fare wording is unclear, ask Delta which classification it used rather than inferring eligibility from the amount paid.
- Keep your request focused
- For a document purchased alongside your own ticket, state its purpose precisely. Ask whether the payment records another traveler or an additional item or arrangement for your journey. Use the actual receipt wording when requesting an explanation; do not rename the product to fit an expected result.
- Check the result
- Record the answer beside the relevant document and reconcile any resulting activity with the identified traveler. If something remains unanswered, retain that question alongside the response for a focused follow-up.
- Scope and limitations
- This guide establishes no fare price, personal earning amount or universal paid-child entitlement. Seating, safety, accommodation and travel-alone arrangements require separate assessment.
