How does a same-day flight change work with Delta Air Lines?
Delta same-day travel requires choosing between confirmed change and standby rather than treating them as synonyms. Inspect the live window, eligible route, cabin and available inventory in My Trips. Preserve the original confirmed flight until standby clears, and move a request for a different travel date or materially different routing into Delta's ordinary change process. Open Delta My Trips with the original ticket number and the passenger name exactly as ticketed. Keep the Delta receipt or eCredit record and confirm that the replacement ticket, operating flight and later segments all show correctly.
Important exceptions
- Standby does not guarantee a seat.
- Changing airports, route, connection pattern or travel date may fall outside same-day rules and become an ordinary change.
- Do not surrender a confirmed original seat for an uncleared standby request.
- Stop if airport codes look similar but identify different airports or metropolitan areas.
- Do not promise eligibility until the live booking presents the confirmed-change or standby option.
