Delta damaged-bag reports: choose the clock for your case

Visit Delta’s Baggage Service Office (BSO) before leaving the airport for ordinary visible damage.

Important unknowns

  • The source does not establish the outcome of an individual request. Confirm current instructions with the airline; the effective date of these provisions is not established.

What to do next

  1. Identify the account

On domestic tickets issued on or after October 8, 2025, report within six hours of arrival; older tickets allow 24 hours. International reports are due within seven days of arrival.

  2. Use the official recovery route

If a delayed bag is returned damaged, the clock is 24 hours from return. Delta also accepts these reports through Reservations or delta.com.

  3. Keep your request focused

Mobility devices, concealed damage or pilferage, and bags checked by unaccompanied minors or travelers with disabilities have separate exceptions. Confirm the relevant rule rather than applying six hours universally.

  4. Check the result

Keep the BSO file reference, then choose “Damaged Bag Claim” and include relevant receipts.
