Before using Delta TakeOff 15: check the award, cardholder and funding

TakeOff 15 gives eligible primary Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum or Reserve personal/Business cardholders at least 15% off Award Ticket miles. Additional cardholders are excluded. Log into the SkyMiles account linked to the eligible card; the entire itinerary must be Delta/Delta Connection-operated and ticketed, booked through delta.com or Fly Delta.

Important unknowns

  • The source does not establish the outcome of an individual request. Confirm current instructions with the airline; the effective date of these provisions is not established.

What to do next

  1. Identify the account

Have miles for the whole award and use the eligible card for taxes/fees. Certificates, eCredits, gift cards, vouchers and other discounts/promotions cannot combine. Pay with Miles, Miles + Cash and post-booking seat upgrades are excluded. Award availability and ticket rules still apply.

  2. Use the official recovery route

Begin with the actual account, card and proposed trip. Record the product named in the offer and each flight’s operator. If the offer differs from the purchase you intended, resolve that difference before comparing headline mileage figures.

  3. Keep your request focused

Keep the displayed miles and money amounts in separate fields. Note the flights, dates, travelers and when you checked them. This lets you compare an actual proposal with your plan instead of reconstructing it from a remembered percentage.

  4. Check the result

Before authorizing payment, read the final allocation and retain the issued-ticket confirmation. If the expected discount is absent or unexplained, give Delta the account/card category, itinerary and product label you were using. Ask about that specific result rather than assuming another payment product follows the same conditions.

Changing a non-Basic TakeOff 15 award: check active-card eligibility and the new miles quote

For an existing non-Basic TakeOff 15 award, the member must hold an active eligible primary Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum or Reserve personal/Business card at the change; Additional holders do not qualify. An eligible replacement gets the discount: higher mileage is debited, lower mileage redeposited to the cardmember’s account.

Confirm before booking

  • Confirm current instructions for your actual ticket or account with the airline. The effective date and individual outcome are not established.

What to do next

  1. Identify the account
  2. The replacement must still meet the full TakeOff 15 criteria: entire Delta/Connection-operated and ticketed itinerary, direct website/app booking, linked eligible account, sufficient miles, taxes/fees on the eligible card, and no certificates, eCredits, gift cards, vouchers or other discounts/promotions. Availability and ticket conditions apply.
  3. Use the official recovery route
  4. Compare the original mileage debit with the actual eligible replacement quote. Keep any quoted money or transaction charge separate so it does not disappear into a single assumed total.
  5. Keep your request focused
  6. For a fictional example, the original ticket used 20,000 miles and an eligible replacement is quoted at 18,000 after the discount. The 2,000-mile difference would be redeposited when that eligible change completes. These are invented comparison figures, not a live award or a personal settlement.
  7. Check the result
  8. Before accepting, check the replacement flights and fare against the trip you want. Retain the original receipt, final exchange confirmation and account entries. If the outcome differs, identify which component needs explanation rather than relying on a remembered headline mileage price.
  9. Scope and limitations
  10. This guide does not establish change fees, tax adjustments or permission to change a particular fare.
