Before asking Delta to close a SkyMiles account: nonexpiry is a different question

SkyMiles miles do not expire, but that does not protect them from account closure. A member's closure request is a listed closure ground; closure forfeits Medallion status, benefits and/or account miles.

Important unknowns

  • The source does not establish the outcome of an individual request. Confirm current instructions with the airline; the effective date of these provisions is not established.

What to do next

  1. Identify the account

Delta says closure unsubscribes marketing emails while retaining the SkyMiles number assigned to basic information. That is not a promise that all associated data is erased.

  2. Use the official recovery route

Name the outcome you want before submitting anything. If your concern is the balance, unwanted messages or personal information, write that concern explicitly. Do not let “close” substitute for a question you have not yet asked.

  3. Keep your request focused

Review the account information you can actually see and list the points you need explained before deciding. Keep the current balance, status and relevant benefit records identifiable in your private notes. Ask Delta to explain the consequences for that account and any separate unresolved transaction.

  4. Check the result

Read the response against your stated goal. If it answers a different question, clarify what remains unresolved instead of proceeding on a broad assurance. Keep the explanation and your decision together so you can distinguish what you requested from what was actually confirmed.

  5. Scope and limitations

This guide does not submit a closure request, decide a privacy-law right or promise reopening. It establishes neither the treatment of an outstanding ticket nor a personal restoration outcome.
