Can I use British Airways household Avios to book an award for a friend?

Check whether the traveler is eligible through your household account or its Family and Friends list. A saved cash-booking companion is not enough. Decide who will receive the award before you begin the redemption; otherwise a usable collective balance can still leave you unable to complete the intended booking.

What this answer depends on

  • Adult recipients; BA Club household-funded awards; official account and reward-booking channel; no child-travel guidance.
  • Household redemptions draw proportionally from participating individual balances, rather than letting the purchaser choose a single contributor.
  • The Family and Friends list permits up to five nominated people outside the household; their own balances are not pooled.
  • Travel Companions stores details for cash bookings, not award eligibility. A person added to the Family and Friends list must stay on it for at least six months.
  • Consider an adult colleague whose details appear every time you buy a business trip. That convenience does not answer whether a household-funded award can be issued to them. The useful comparison is not “saved versus unsaved passenger,” but “cash companion versus eligible award recipient.” Decide whether a long-term nomination fits your plans before using a limited place on the list. A different trip for a household member is a separate spending decision, not a way to relabel the colleague’s ticket.
  • An agency’s ability to sell a cash flight does not prove that it can spend your household balance. Use the Club redemption channel or obtain an explicit explanation of the seller’s award-ticketing role. Do not hand over account credentials to make an ordinary cash seller appear to be an award provider.
