Can a short premium-cabin connection affect the mileage price of an ANA partner award?
Yes. For a round-trip partner award with mixed classes, ANA applies the higher cabin’s mileage requirement to each direction separately. A short premium segment can therefore matter even when the longest flight is in Economy. Compare the quoted whole direction before accepting the itinerary.
What this answer depends on
- New ANA Mileage Club round-trip partner awards under the current mixed-class section; no cash fare or live award quote.
- ANA’s current partner-award section applies the higher class to the outbound and return journeys respectively when a round trip mixes cabins.
- When outbound and return use different classes, the stated round-trip mileage requirement for each class is divided by two and applied to its respective direction.
- Imagine an Economy long-haul flight followed by a Business connection. The premium connection may influence the pricing basis for that direction, but it does not transform the long-haul seat into Business. Conversely, choosing Business outbound and Economy return requires a directional calculation, not a simple cabin label for the entire trip.
- These are ANA Mileage Club partner-award rules, not the cash fare rules of the operating airline. A retail agency’s mixed-cabin quotation or another loyalty program’s chart cannot be substituted for the ANA award calculation.
Important exceptions
- This article deliberately covers the published round-trip mixed-class rule. It does not invent a route price or extend a round-trip formula to every one-way construction. Availability, taxes and the exact award quote remain to be checked. The source contains old and current dated sections; use the current section for new issuance.
More booking questions
Does the highest-priced cabin mean that cabin on every flight?
No. Inspect the actual booked cabin on each segment; a pricing rule is not an upgrade promise.

Must the return use the same cabin as the outbound?
ANA’s published rule expressly addresses different cabins in the two directions.
