Missing AAdvantage miles: distinguish normal posting from a missing-credit request

American’s account-summary guidance describes American travel credit in 1–3 days, other-airline credit within 30 days, and other partner activity generally within 30 days or occasionally longer. Separately, its Missing miles section asks travelers to allow up to 10 days for American travel and 30 days for partner airlines. The usual posting description and missing-credit waiting guidance are different statements. Missing flight miles can be requested online within 12 months of travel. Missing non-airline partner miles should be raised with that partner.

Important unknowns

  • The source does not establish the outcome of an individual request. Confirm current instructions with the airline; the effective date of these provisions is not established.

What to do next

  1. Identify the missing activity

Start with the transaction or flight you cannot find. Record the travel or activity date, the airline or partner, the traveler and the membership account you expected to receive the credit. A missing flight and a missing hotel or shopping transaction should not be bundled into one vague complaint. Then compare the account activity with your receipt or trip record. Look for the particular item you expect rather than relying only on the total balance. Other activity can change the balance without resolving the missing entry.

  2. Choose the next action from the right category

Use the published timing descriptions to frame the question, without turning a usual posting time into a guaranteed deadline. If you are unsure which interval applies, tell American the actual travel date and activity type rather than choosing the shortest number. Before submitting a missing-flight request, assemble the details needed to identify that journey. Keep a record of the request and any reference supplied. For a non-airline transaction, describe the missing purchase to the responsible partner and retain its response.

  3. Check the outcome, not just the submission

A submitted request does not prove that a fare qualifies or that miles were awarded. Recheck the activity record and compare any result with the specific missing journey. This guide does not establish retroactive eligibility, an earning amount or guaranteed processing time. Adding a membership number to an existing reservation is a separate task and does not by itself settle missing past credit.
