Before buying a personal AAdvantage Pass: compare the status and Loyalty Point clocks

A personal AAdvantage Pass includes bonus miles, separate Loyalty Points and status. The bonus miles themselves do not earn Loyalty Points. Included Points count in the current qualification year and reset March 1; package status lasts one year from purchase. Packages are nonrefundable and cannot be exchanged. You cannot buy a package for the same or lower status than your current status, or repeat a same-status package before it expires. Personal purchases are online; gifting requires AAdvantage Customer Service.

Important unknowns

What to do next

  1. Compare the dates before the package price

List the intended purchase date, the package's stated status period and the relevant qualification-year boundary as separate entries. Then write what you are trying to achieve: a benefit during particular travel, additional qualification activity or miles for a redemption. Keeping the goal visible helps prevent one component's date from being mistaken for another's. If a trip falls near a boundary, ask American how the actual package would appear in your account and apply to that booking. Request clarification of any unclear date rather than inventing a full year of qualification activity from the status anniversary. Check your existing status and any promotion record when asking about eligibility.

  2. Evaluate the whole bundle

Review the actual package description and identify what each component would do for you. Do not treat a headline mileage quantity as a complete description of the purchase. If a benefit matters to the decision, verify its conditions for the intended trip before assigning it value in your comparison. Keep the final offer and purchase confirmation together. Afterward, compare the account's recorded components with that offer and identify any discrepancy precisely. An entry for one component does not prove that every date or benefit question has been resolved.

  3. Limits of this guide

This article covers personal packages, not business assignment rules. It does not establish a package price, availability, your individual eligibility or a promised qualification outcome. It also does not give bonus miles the status component's one-year validity: mileage validity remains a separate program-terms question. Resolve those questions before relying on the bundle for travel or status planning.
