Adding a lap infant to an American booking: domestic and international online steps

If your child will travel in your lap while under two, include them in the American reservation rather than treating your own ticket as their booking.

Important unknowns

  • The source does not establish the outcome of an individual request. Confirm current instructions with the airline; the effective date of these provisions is not established.

What to do next

  1. Identify the account

For domestic travel, including Puerto Rico, you can add the infant online during booking or after ticketing. For an international trip, first ticket the trip, then add the infant online.

  2. Use the official recovery route

Open Passenger details and choose Add infant in lap. Review the infant entry before completing the update; keep the resulting trip record with your confirmation.

  3. Keep your request focused

For international travel, taxes and a percentage of the adult fare may apply. Read the actual amount before paying.

  4. Check the result

If the infant is under seven days old, contact Reservations for either domestic or international travel.
